概要
ノーム・トーランの作品は、歴史、記憶、ストーリーテリングの相互関係を思案する手段として開発され、映画、文学、演劇の形式に落とし込まれた複雑な物語をつくり出している。歴史、アート、デザインの方法論を組み合わせることで、彼の学問を超えた実践は考古学と歴史のあいだにある隔たりに問いを投げかけている。
今回のレクチャーでは、プロジェクトの背景における制作プロセスと技術に焦点を当て、3つのプロジェクトの概念化から実現までを紹介する。ラピッドプロトタイピングや演劇セットの制作、人工装具の開発、カリキュラム構築、さらにはホラーメイク専門家からファッションデザイナー、エンジニアまでを含む多様な専門家とのコラボレーションなどのさまざまな方法論が、どのように彼の実践を形づくるために役立っているかについて議論する。
講師略歴
ノーム・トーラン［MA, RCA］
アメリカ・ニューメキシコ州のラスクルーセス生まれ。オランダ・ロッテルダム在住。英国王立芸術学院にてデザインの修士号を取得。現在はアムステルダムのサンドバーグ・インスティテュート、デザイン・アカデミー・アイントホーフェン、ジュネーヴ造形芸術大学（HEAD）にて教鞭をとる。彼の作品は、ポンピドゥー・センター（パリ）やクンストハレ・ウィーン（オーストリア）、ヴィクトリア＆アルバート博物館（ロンドン）、イスラエル博物館（エルサレム）、ヴィット・デ・ウィット（ロッテルダム）、 MuHKA（アントワープ）、ニューヨーク近代美術館など、世界中のコレクションで展示されている。

Summary
Noam Toran’s creates intricate narratives developed as a means to reflect upon the interrelations of history, memory, and storytelling as embodied in cinematic, literary, and performative forms. Combining the methods of history, art, and design, his trans-disciplinary practice questions the divide between artefact and artifice.
For his D-lab lecture, Toran will present three projects, explaining the works from conception to materialization, focusing on ‘behind-the scenes’ production processes and techniques. Noam will discuss how methods as diverse as rapid-prototyping, theatrical set production, prosthetics development and curriculum building and collaborations with diverse professionals –from horror makeup specialists to fashion designers to engineers– has helped to shape his practice.

Born in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Lives and works in Rotterdam. Currently teaches at the Sandberg Institute, Amsterdam, Design Academy, Eindhoven, and HEAD, Geneva. His work is exhibited widely and can be found in many international collections from CNAC Pompidou (Paris), Kunsthalle Wien (Vienna), Victoria & Albert Museum (London), Israel Museum (Jerusalem), Witte de With (Rotterdam), MuHKA (Antwerp) and MoMA (NYC).
