Students from the National University of Singapore and Kyoto Institute of Technology create works with a common theme and are looking for participants in a project for Milano Salone in Italy.

Theme: Exchange of form

This project is an experiment that causes culture propagation and indigenization, one of the most important processes of history, under limited conditions. Information is lost as some cultural elements (words, things, figures, etc.) are transferred from one area to another, which causes misreading and changes at the same time as it mixes with the destination culture , Such a process is done mutually between Singapore and Japanese students.
The project will be held in five phases. In the first phase, students from each country collect characteristic elements that constitute their own culture. Students go out to various places and collect forms, colors, materials and finishes expressing each culture from things of various scales from product details to city structure. They are not necessarily typical and not necessarily known by anyone but rather it is recommended to discover forms that are clearly considered to be Japanese / Singapore though no one has pointed out I will. (August – September, 2017)
In the second phase, the real things and pictures of the forms collected by the students are organized as samples and they are sent from Japan to Singapore and from Singapore to Japan. Students from each country are interested in samples from foreign countries they receive and they will be able to imagine what they mean and where they have cultural characteristics of Japan and Singapore. From many samples, we will select what we care about each student, what we are likely to be the material of your work, and observe and interpret the choices in detail. In the third phase, students design objects with functions that can be used in everyday life by fitting themselves to the context of their country, using the form chosen by themselves as a material. And we will create our own ideas designed in the fourth phase. (After October 2017)
In the final phase of the project, works designed by both students are gathered in one place, mixed and displayed. (April 2018)
