都市「京都」の境界はどこにあるのか？
日本の都市は、ヨーロッパの都市のように都市壁がなく、その都市境界は明確ではありません。こうした違いを踏まえた上で、京都の見える境界と見えない境界を浮かび上がらせようとした挑戦的なワークショップ。
参加学生は、京都の歴史、環境、コミュニティのありようを読み取り、「サウンド」「テキスト」「イメージ」を駆使して映像作品として作り上げました。試行錯誤の結果、絞り込まれた４チームのコンセプトは「計画的重力」「奥行」「ローミング」「時間の音」。これまでにない都市「京都」の姿を、3分の映像シークエンスとして描き出すその方法は、空間体験をつくりだす建築的手法へと接続するものといえます。

Where are the boundaries of Kyoto?
There are traditionally no ramparts in Japanese cities, unlike historical cities in Europe, which makes the urban boundaries less distinct. Based on that distinction, this ambitious workshop attempted to highlight the visible and invisible boundaries that exist in Kyoto.
Participating students analyzed Kyoto’s history, environment, and the characteristics of its communities, and created video works using sound, text, and images. After a process of trial and error, students narrowed their approaches down to four concepts: “designed gravity,” “depth,” “roaming,” and “sound of time.” This approach to depicting Kyoto’s previously unseen characteristics in a sequence of three-minute videos is connected to architectural methodologies that create spatial experiences.
