KYOTO Design Labは、ギリシャ・アテネを拠点とする建築事務所 Point Supremeとの共同ワークショップを開催します。
本ワークショップは、都市との関わり方のオルタナティヴなアプローチを提案します。現地訪問や直接的な記録を優先するのではなく、ポストカード、既存のイメージや断片を通して制作を行い、表象の重なりの中から京都の空気感が立ち上がることを目指します。
京都の最も本質的な魅力は、単一の建築に宿ることはほとんどありません。それらは風景の襞の中に、庭や丘、道、工芸とともに呼吸する建築のあり方の中に潜んでいます。伝統、時間、天候、作り手の手仕事、門が落とす影、風に運ばれる香りといった要素が、ゆっくりと積み重なるその過程の中にあります。
本ワークショップは、その開かれた状態——固定されない質——を保つことを目指し、京都を捉えられる対象としてではなく、ひとつの〈在り方〉として捉え直します。
※本ワークショップは京都工芸繊維大学の学生を対象に開催されます。
※本ワークショップは単位付与の対象ではありません。
アプローチ
参加者は、ポストカード、写真、既存の素材を重ね合わせて制作するイメージ構成「Postcard Sculpture」を制作します。このプロセスでは、都市を読み解く行為としての選択、編集、構成を重視します。
- Gathering — ポストカードやイメージの収集
- Observing — 個々の質感やディテールを得るための、近隣への任意の個人訪問
- Composing — 京都の精神が息づく、新たなポストカード構成へのイメージのレイヤリング
- Reflecting — 各構成が何を明らかにしているのかを議論：ムード、季節、記憶、リズム
「Postcard Sculpture」は以下の条件を満たすものとします。
- 必須：ヴィンテージ・ポストカード（1点以上）を含む
- 任意：写真（1点以上、本人撮影のものなど、著作権侵害に当たらないもの）を含む

KYOTO Design Lab will hold a workshop in collaboration with Point Supreme, an architecture practice based in Athens, Greece.
This workshop proposes an alternative way of engaging with the city. Rather than prioritizing site visits and direct documentation, we work through postcards, found images, and fragments — allowing Kyoto’s atmosphere to emerge through layers of representation.
Kyoto’s most meaningful qualities rarely reside in single buildings. They hide in folds of landscape, in the way architecture breathes with gardens, hills, paths, and craft — in the slow accumulation of tradition, time, weather, the hand of the maker, a shadow cast by a gate, a scent carried by wind.
This workshop seeks to preserve that openness — that unfixed quality — by approaching Kyoto not as an object to be captured, but as a way of being.
*This workshop is open to Kyoto Institute of Technology students, including international students.
*No academic credit will be awarded for this workshop.
Workshop Approach
Participants will create Postcard Sculptures, image compositions made by layering postcards, photographs, and found material. The process emphasizes selection, editing, and composition as acts of reading the city.
- Gathering — Collecting postcards and images
- Observing — Optional personal visits to nearby places for individual texture and detail
- Composing — Layering images into new postcard compositions that breathe Kyoto’s spirit
- Reflecting — Discussing what each composition reveals: a mood, a season, a memory, a rhythm
Each Postcard Sculpture:
- must include: vintage postcards (1 or more)
- may include: photographs (1 or more), either taken by the participant or images that do not infringe copyright
