背景
谷川俊太郎（1931年生まれ）は、今も生存する日本の詩人であり、国内外で広く読まれ高く評価されています。しかし、彼のラジオ・無線工学への情熱についてはあまり知られていません。
2010年、彼は自身が所有する、主にアメリカ製のヴィンテージラジオの幅広いコレクションを、関連するポスターや出版物とともに京都工芸繊維大学に寄贈しました。2011年に一度展示されて以来、これらは、本学図書館や美術工芸資料館に保存されたままで、一度もこれらに関する再解釈的な作品がつくられたことがありません。
このデザイン・ワークショップでは、日本とRCAのデザイナー達がそのコレクションを題材に取り上げ、メディア領域において観客と新たなコミュニケーションを図るための作品を提案します。このコレクションに命を吹き込み、異なる文化の視点を持つデザイナーたちの視点から、類まれなこの詩人の仕事を浮き彫りにすることが目的です。その成果は、2017年にKYOTO Design Lab東京ギャラリーで展示する予定です。
プロフィール
ケヴィン・ウォーカー（インフォーメーション・エクスペリエンス・デザイン、RCA）
ケビン・ウォーカー氏はデジタルとフィジカル領域を架橋する研究者、デザイナー、ライター、アーティストで、認知理論と文化理論が現実化された物質的空間のキュレーションとコンピュータ化を推進している。ジャーナリズム、アートとデザイン、インタラクション・デザイン、社会科学等の背景を持ち、著書にHackers and Slackers （2012）、共同編集Digital technologies and the Museum Experience （2008）がある。
デビー・クック（ヴィジュアル・コミュニケーション、RCA）
RCAで1989年より教鞭をとるデザイナー、イラストレーター。事実上の主題に基づき、物語を進行させる手段としてのオブジェを生かした作品を製作。コミュニケーション・デザイン、デザイン作品やアニメーション用イラスト、切手、書籍、新聞、ポスターや広告、TVや美術館など活動は多岐にわたり、国内外でレクチャー等をおこなう。作品はビクトリア＆アルバート博物館（ロンドン）で常設展示されている。
ユウリ・スズキ（サウンドデザイナー、アーティスト、RCA）
ユウリ・スズキ氏はサウンド・アーティストであり、かつ独自のデザインによる造形作品を用いて、サウンドと人間の関係性、音楽やサウンドの人間の心への影響を探るなど、サウンドの領域を探索する電子音楽家でもある。東京生まれ、日本人のアートユニット「明和電機」と共に活動し、2005年にロンドンに移り、RCAで学ぶ。ユウリ・スズキ氏のサウンドアート作品、インスタレーションは国際的に展示されており、RCAのInformation Experience Design Courseのチューター、「新電子音楽ワークショップ」 のメンバーでもある。2014年には、作品がニューヨーク近代美術館の永久保存コレクションに加えられた。

Background
Shuntaro Tanikawa (b 1931) is one of the most widely-read and highly regarded of living Japanese poets both in Japan and overseas. What is less known about him is his passion for radios and radio engineering. In 2010, he donated his extensive collection of vintage, mainly American radios to the Kyoto Institute of Technology, along with associated posters and publications. Apart from an exhibition in 2011, these remain in the library and archive of KIT. They have never had an interpretative work created for them individually or as a collection.
This design workshop will use the collection as the basis for a series of stand-alone interpretative works in a range of media by Japanese and RCA designers. The aim is to bring the collection to life and underscore its significance to Tanikawa’s work through the eyes of designers from different cultural perspectives. The resulting works will be exhibited at Kyoto Design Lab’s Gallery in Tokyo in 2017.

Dr Kevin Walker, Course leader, RCA Information Experience Design
Kevin Walker is a researcher, designer, writer and artist working at the boundaries of the digital and physical—specifically in curation and computation in physical spaces, grounded in cognitive and cultural theory. Author of Hackers and Slackers (2012), co-editor of Digital technologies and the Museum Experience (2008), his background is in journalism, art and design, interactive media and social science.
Debbie Cook, Tutor, RCA Visual Communication Design
Debbie Cook is designer and illustrator who has taught at the Royal College of Art since 1989. Her work has a narrative focus based on factual themes with a particular fascination for the object and how that can be used to convey narrative.
Debbie Cook has worked extensively in the area of communication design, creating design and illustration for animation, postage stamps, books, newspapers, posters, advertising campaigns, TV graphics and museums. She broadcasts and lectures internationally.
Her work is held in the permanent collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London
Yuri Suzuki, Sound Artist, Tutor, RCA Information Experience Design
Yuri Suzuki is a sound artist, designer and electronic musician whose work explores the realms of sound through exquisitely designed pieces, which question the relation between sound and people and how music and sound affect people’s minds. Born in Tokyo, he worked for Japanese art unit Maywa Denki but moved to London in 2005 to study at the RCA. Suzuki’s sound art pieces and installations have been shown in exhibitions internationally. He is a tutor in the Information Experience Design Course at the RCA and member of New Radiophonic Workshop. In 2014, the Museum of Modern Art New York acquired his work for their permanent collection.
