マリーナ・タバサム　［建築家／デルフト工科大学教授］
バングラデシュのダッカを拠点に、2005年にマリーナ・タバサム・アーキテクツ（MTA）を設立。気候やコンテクスト、文化や歴史を含むエコロジカルな慣例に疑問を投げかけ、現代的かつその場所を反映する土地に根差した建築言語の確立を目指している。バングラデシュの「バイト・ウル・ルーフ・モスク」は、一般的なモスクに見られるシンボリックな形状をもたない空間と光を重視した礼拝の場であり、ダッカ郊外の密集した地域の避難所としても機能している。タバサムはこれまでイェール大学、ハーバード大学GSDなどで教鞭を執り、現在はデルフト工科大学で教授を務める。ミュンヘン工科大学から名誉博士号を授与されたほか、アガ・カーン建築賞やフランス建築アカデミーのゴールドメダル、イギリスのソーン建築賞など、数々の賞を受賞。現在「建築とコミュニティの平等のための財団（F.A.C.E）」とフェアトレードを推進する「Prokritee」の会長であり、2017年から2022年の期間、アガ・カーン建築賞の運営委員を務めた。

前田茂樹　［建築家／京都芸術大学特任教授］
1974年大阪府生まれ。1998年大阪大学卒業後、2000 – 2010年までパリにあるドミニク・ペロー・アーキテクチュールにて、歩道橋などの土木デザインからホテルや超高層ビルなどのプロジェクトに携わる。2010年からジオ-グラフィック・デザイン・ラボを主宰し、住宅から公共建築や公園、駅前空間の設計を手掛ける。2023年からは、プロポーザルを経て設計監理した徳島県立東部防災館おきのすインドアパークを運営する株式会社ジオグラフィックデザインを徳島県で立ち上げ、施設の館長に就任。

KYOTO Design Lab will hold a public lecture by Marina Tabassum, a Bangladeshi architect and professor at TU Delft and Shigeki Maeda, a Japanese architect and Professor at Kyoto University of the Arts. Following the lecture, a discussion between Tabassum and Maeda will take place.

Marina Tabassum [Architect / Professor, TU Delft]

A Bangladeshi architect and educator, Marina Tabassum founded Dhaka-based Marina Tabassum Architects in 2005. In her work, Tabassum seeks to establish a language of architecture that is contemporary yet reflectively rooted to place, always against an ecological rubric containing climate, context, culture, history. Her project the Bait Ur Rouf Mosque in Bangladesh is distinguished by its lack of popular mosque iconography, its emphasis on space and light, and its capacity to function not only as a place of worship but also as a refuge for a dense neighborhood on Dhaka’s periphery.

Tabassum is a Professor at Technical University Delft, in the Netherlands. She held the Gehry Chair at the University of Toronto 2022 – 2023. She has taught in Harvard University Graduate School of Design, University of Texas, Bengal Institute and BRAC University.

She received an Honorary Doctorate from Technical University of Munich. In addition to Aga Khan Awards for Architecture, she has received many accolades including Arnold Brunner Memorial Prize from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, Gold Medal of the French Academy of Architecture and Soane medal in Architecture from the United Kingdom.

Tabassum chairs Foundation for Architecture and Community Equity (F.A.C.E) and Prokritee, a Fare trade organization. She has served as the member of the Steering Committee of the Aga Khan Awards for Architecture from 2017 to 2022. She is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA).

Shigeki Maeda [Architect / Professor, Kyoto University of the Arts]

Born in Osaka, Japan in 1974, Shigeki Maeda graduated from Osaka University in 1998 and worked at Dominique Perrault Architecture in Paris from 2000 to 2010, where he was involved in projects ranging from civil engineering designs such as pedestrian bridges to hotels and skyscrapers.

Since 2010, he has been running the GEO-GRAPHIC DESIGN LAB., designing residential and public buildings, parks, and station square.

In 2023, he founded GEO-GRAPHIC DESIGN in Tokushima Prefecture, Japan, which operates the Okinosu Indoor Park, which he designed and supervised through a proposal process, and became the director of the facility.
