ME310/SUGARとは

ME310/SUGARは、世界各地の大学生が、デザイン思考の方法論を用いてグローバル企業が提起するイノベーション課題に挑戦するプログラムです。約9か月のあいだ、学生チームは企業から提供されるさまざまな課題に対するリサーチからスタートし、機能的なプロトタイプを用いて洗練されたコンセプトを開発していきます。ME310/SUGARで生まれたコンセプトの多くは、パートナー企業の実際の製品やサービスになっています。

スタンフォード大学ではじまったこのプログラムは世界中に広がり、現在では5大陸20校を超える大学で実施され、世界の参加学生数はこの10年で約5倍に増えました。日本からは、京都工芸繊維大学のみこのネットワークに参加しています。

2020−2021年度のプログラムは、2020年9月末〜2021年7月中旬にかけておこなわれます。

*本プログラムは、日本の通常の大学教育プログラムのスケジュールに則っておりません。春休みの期間中にもプログラムは実施されますので、あらかじめご留意ください。

ME310/SUGARで何が得られるか？

リアルなプロジェクトへの参加
ME310/SUGARのすべてのプロジェクトは、実際の企業がスポンサーとなり、実際に機能する洗練されたプロトタイプを制作するため予算が与えられ、通常の学生プロジェクトで提供されるものを超えたリアリティを持って取り組むことができます。

創造的であることへの誇り
ME310/SUAGRでは、一般的な課題や授業を超えた、社会につながるたくさんの学びを得ることができます。この刺激的かつ集中的なプロジェクトを達成したとき、ひとりひとりが創造的なプロジェクトをやり遂げる力がついたと言えるでしょう。

参加基準

  • 学部4年生（修士課程へ進学を予定している者）、修士課程、博士課程に在籍し、プログラム終了時までに卒業しない学生（例外として、修士課程へ進学を予定していない学部3年生の参加を認める場合もあります）
  • 英語能力
  • プロダクト・イノベーションに関連する分野での経験（例：エンジニアリング、デザイン、ビジネス、ユーザーリサーチなど）
  • 本学の学生である必要はありませんが、プログラム期間中は定期的に本学松ヶ崎キャンパスへお越しいただくことが前提になります

    • 2セメスターを通して、ME310/SUGARへの参加で計8単位を取得することができます。デザイン・建築学課程、情報工学課程の学生の場合は、各専攻内の科目とみなされます。そのほかの学生の場合は、共通科目とみなされます。

    What is ME310/SUGAR?

    ME310/SUGAR is a program where students from universities around the world take on innovation challenges posed by global companies using design thinking methodologies. In nine months, student teams start from a broadly defined brief and develop a refined concept with a functional prototype. Many of the concepts from ME310/SUGAR have become real products and features for the partnering companies.

    The program originated at Stanford University and has spread around the world to over twenty universities on five continents. The number of students worldwide has increased fivefold over the last ten years, but KIT is the only Japanese university in the network.

    The 2020-2021 program will run from late September 2020 to mid-July 2021. (This program does not follow the normal academic calendar in Japan. You will be expected to participate even during spring holidays)

    What you get out of ME310/SUGAR?

    International Community: Several hundred students from around the world participate in ME310/SUGAR every year, and this is your opportunity to improve your communication skills and expand your network beyond borders.

    Experiences in Design Thinking: Design Thinking is an approach to innovation that is becoming increasingly popular in industry. This is your opportunity to learn this cutting-edge methodology and start your career as a true innovator.

    Working on a Real Project: Every project in ME310/SUGAR is industry-sponsored with reality that is beyond what is normally provided in student projects. Teams also get a proper prototyping budget to create a functional and refined prototype at the end of the project.

    Creative Confidence: In ME310/SUGAR, students learn a lot of building and management skills related to the project topics, and one of the most common feedbacks is that getting through such an intense project was great in building one’s confidence.

    Eligibility Criteria

  • 4th year Bachelors (continuing into a Masters Program), Masters, or Ph.D. students not graduating before the program finishes (we have made some exceptions in the past for 3rd year students who are not considering staying at KIT for Masters Program)
  • Competency in English
  • Experience in fields related to product innovation (e.g. engineering, design, business, user research, etc.)
  • Applicant does not need to be a Kyoto Institute of Technology student, but must be able to come regularly to campus throughout the program.

    • Through two semesters, you will be able to receive 8 units total for your participation in ME310/SUGAR. For students in Design, Architecture, Information Science, this will be considered as a subject within your major. For all other majors, this will be considered a program-wide subject.
