A chapter entitled “Designing Possible Futures,” authored by Associate Professor Kazutoshi Tsuda, Project Specialist Risa Kikuchi, and Professor Yasuhiro Yamasaki, has been included in the book “The Power of Design and Convergence of AI,” published by Routledge (CRC Press) in December 2025.

This edited volume explores the potential created by the convergence of design and artificial intelligence (AI) from multiple perspectives, bringing together insights from researchers and practitioners across diverse regions and disciplines. It addresses a wide range of themes—including urban design, sustainability, human-centered design, and the relationship between technology and society—and presents current research trends at the intersection of design and AI.

The chapter “Designing Possible Futures” is included in Part II, “Making Our World More Sustainable, Livable and Pleasant …”. The chapter reviews the founding mission and activities over the past ten years of KYOTO Design Lab, examining how international collaboration, digital fabrication and AI, digital design incorporating point cloud data, and practices of social implementation in cultural heritage and urban contexts have expanded the potential of design to generate new value and to envision future societies through transdisciplinary collaboration.
