ビデオ:「伝統への現代デザインの応答— Alternative Futures—」

京都工芸繊維大学KYOTO Design Lab [D-lab] は、例年夏に開催してきたテキスタイル・サマースクールに関連した展覧会「伝統への現代デザインの応答—丹後ちりめん300週年に向けて」を東京ギャラリーにて2020年10月31日[土]–12月27日[日]の日程で開催致しました。

KYOTO Design Labのジュリア・カセム特命教授と嵯峨美術大学の上田香准教授がキュレーションを行ない、８か国・計15名のデザイナーたちが参加しています。

この動画はその概要をお伝えすると共に、300年の伝統を持つ丹後ちりめんの新しい可能性を拓くツールとして、デザインをどのように活用できるのかを問いかけるものです。

3つの受賞
コロナ禍にもかかわらず、制作した中の３作品が別々の賞を受賞しています。中でも岡本汐香氏の「Okamoto’s Sensory Pleasure」は、シンガポールのレッドドット・ミュージアムに展示されました。

展覧会終了後、ジャパンハウス・ロンドンではKYOTO Design Labとの共同で3回のオンライン・ウェビナーを開催。参加したデザイナーが展覧会のために制作した作品の創作過程について語りました。この模様は、ジャパンハウス・ロンドンのサイトでご覧いただけます。

KYOTO Design Lab [D-lab]’s annual Textiles Summer School hosted the exhibition “Alternative Futures: contemporary design responses to the 300 year Tango chirimen tradition” 2020.10.31(Sat)–12.27(Sun), at Tokyo Gallery.

The program was curated by Professor Julia Cassim [KYOTO Design Lab] and Associate Professor Kaori Ueda [Kyoto Saga University of Arts] and a total of 15 designers from eight countries joined the production.

This video provides an overview how design can be used as a tool to open up new possibilities for Tango Chirimen, which has a tradition of 300 years.

Three Awards
Despite the pandemic, three of the commissioned works won separate prizes with Shioka’s Okamoto’s Sensory Pleasure being exhibited at the Red Dot Museum in Singapore:

Subsequent to the exhibition, Japan House London collaborated with KYOTO Design Lab in three online webinars where the participating designers discussed their creative process in relation to their created works for the exhibition. They can be seen on the Japan House London Channel:
