「KYOTO STEAM－世界文化交流祭－」は、「KYOTO CULTIVATES PROJECT」の理念（京都は耕す、育む、磨く）を体現し、京都賞が先駆的に示してきた人類の未来への願いとも共鳴した、アート×サイエンス・テクノロジーをテーマに開催する新しい文化・芸術の祭典です。
「KYOTO STEAM 2020 国際アートコンペティション スタートアップ展」は、2019年度に開催する予定だったものの、新型コロナウイルス感染拡大防止のために一般公開が叶わなかった「STEAM THINKING－未来を創るアート京都からの挑戦 国際アートコンペティション スタートアップ」展に出展予定だった作品、および同展と同時開催する予定だった「STEAM THINKING－未来を創るアート京都からの挑戦 アート×サイエンス GIG」に参加した3つの芸術系大学による作品、そして、KYOTO STEAMと同じく、アートとサイエンス・テクノロジーの融合を通じて新たな価値の創造を目指している企業の作品を展覧します。
KYOTO Design Lab［D-lab］では建築や工芸の分野で歴史的に価値ある技術や史料を継承している企業や団体、作家と協働し、3次元レーザースキャナーを用いて建築物や工芸作品をデジタル保存するとともに、修復や復元をおこなう研究を進めています。本展では「Dynamic Heritage」をテーマに、これらのプロジェクトの過程で生み出された5つの作品を展示します。3Dプリンターやロボットアームなどのデジタル加工機器やVR/AR技術を活用することで生まれる歴史遺産の新たな可能性を体感できる展示です。

KYOTO STEAM – International Arts × Science Festival – is a series of art and culture events that explore the collaboration between arts and science/technology, taking place in Okazaki, Kyoto. It reflects the concept of ‘KYOTO CULTIVATES PROJECT,’ and is in sympathy with the wish of the Kyoto Prize to ‘contribute to the progress of the future of humanity.’
As a human resources cultivation project for the KYOTO STEAM – International Arts x Science Festival –, we conduct STEAM THINKING LABO workshops at 3 hub art universities in Kyoto, utilizing the technology and materials from enterprises and research institutes. The Art x Science GIG, which will be held concurrently with the Start Up Exhibition, will be showcasing the outcome of the workshops, as well as the technology and research of coorperating enterprises and hub universities from STEAM THINKING LABO. Various workshops will also be held by artists, researchers, buyers, and entrepreneurs.
The KYOTO Design Lab [D-lab] is collaborating with companies, organizations, and artists who have inherited historically valuable techniques and historical documents in the fields of architecture and crafts to digitally preserve, restore, and reconstruct buildings and crafts using 3D laser scanners. Under the theme of “Dynamic Heritage,” the exhibition will feature five works that have been created in the course of these projects, allowing visitors to experience the new possibilities of historical heritage created through the use of 3D printers, robotic arms and other digital processing equipment, as well as VR/AR technology.
