本学魚谷繁礼特任教授率いるチームで設計された祇園の宿泊施設「SOWAKA」が第9回京都建築賞で最優秀賞を受賞しました。また、本学の満田衛資教授も同チームに設計者として参加されています。京都建築賞は京都の歴史的文脈を踏まえつつ創造性の高い優れた建築作品を表彰するものです。
また、本建築は2021年度グッドデザイン賞においてグッドフォーカス賞［地域社会デザイン］も受賞しています。
そして、同じく本学魚谷繁礼特任教授が設計された「コンテナ町家」が、2020年度JIA新人賞を受賞しました。
JIA新人賞は日本建築家協会が主催する、新進の建築家の優れた建築作品を表彰するものです。

京都での私たちの仕事が評価を受け有難いです。「コンテナ町家」は京都の旧市街で駐車場の中に取り残された長屋3軒と路地の痕跡を残すべく、これらに鉄骨のフレームを架け、そこに中古の海洋コンテナを設置して事務所ビルとしたプロジェクトです。
「sowaka」は本館、新館、離れからなる宿泊施設です。このうち本館は、取り壊しの危機にあった大正年間建築の料亭を、建築基準法適用除外としつつ法同等以上の安全性を確保するような計画により、この建築の後世への継承を図りました。 KYOTO Design Labにおいても現在、先生方や学生らとともに都市や建築に関連する複数のプロジェクトに取り組んでいます。今後少しずつでも成果を発表していきたいと思います。

魚谷繁礼

魚谷繁礼建築研究所代表。
2003年京都大学大学院工学研究科修了。その後、京都大学、京都建築専門学校などで非常勤講師を担い、現在は本学KYOTO Design Lab特任教授を勤める。
Accommodation facility “SOWAKA” in Gion, designed by team led by Specially Appointed Professor Shigenori Uoya of Kyoto Institute of Technology won the Grand Prize at the Kyoto Architecture Award. The team was accompanied by Professor Mitsuda Eisuke at the Kyoto Institute of Technology who joined the team as a designer. The Kyoto Architecture Award is given to outstanding architectural works that represent high creativity and consideration for the historical context of Kyoto. Besides, SOWAKA received the Good Focus Award [Design of Community Development] in the 2021 Good Design Award.
In addition, Shigenori Uoya’s work [Container Machiya] won the JIA Young Architect Award year 2020. JIA Young Architect Award is given to outstanding architectural works by up-coming architects. The award is sponsored by the Architectural Institute of Japan.

I’m thankful that our work has been highly appreciated. [Container Machiya] is a workspace project that focuses on historical alleys and three Nagaya, traditional Kyoto-style townhouses that left the block structure of the old town in Kyoto.The office building was composed of used shipping containers and a steel frame was inserted into the stride across the Nagaya houses.
[Sowaka] is a lodging facility that consists of a main building, a newly-built annex and one detached building. The main building includes a restaurant that was in danger of being destroyed during the Taisho era. Our aim is to pass on this building to future generations by ensuring higher safety than demanded by law while exemption from Building Standards Law.
Students and teachers are currently engaged in different urban and architectural projects in KYOTO Design Lab. I’d like to keep you updated about the future project results.
