第22回ミラノ・トリエンナーレは、ニューヨーク近代美術館［MoMA］R&D部門ディレクター、建築・デザイン部門シニアキュレーターのパオラ・アントネッリがメインキュレーターを務め、2019年3月1日から9月1日まで開催されます。「Broken Nature: Design Takes on Human Survival」をテーマに、新たに示されるレストレイティヴ・デザイン（Restorative Design｜回復のデザイン）のコンセプトが、人類と環境との崩れてしまった関係性に対してどのように言及しているかに注目した展示がおこなわれます。
テーマ別展示のひとつであるFixpertsプロジェクトのセクションに、本学の学部3年生がデザインのカリキュラムの一環として参加したふたつのプロジェクトが選出され、その作品と映像が展示されます。
KYOTO Design Labは、2015年より3年生のデザイン専攻学生のカリキュラムの一環としてFixpertsに取り組んでいます。学生たちは、京都でデザインパートナーを見つけ、ディスカッション、民俗学的リサーチ、プロトタイピングの反復を通して、パートナーの仕事を手伝う道具や環境を改善するプロダクトのデザインを目指しました。また、Fixpertsプロジェクトは、デザインや制作プロセス、アイデアが進化する過程を説明する4分間のバイリンガルビデオの制作も求められます。
工藤外四、中山うらら、八木まどか、Ah Hyoen Kim が取り組んだ「Bebento」は、京都市内を移動しながら靴の修理をおこなうナカガワミチオ氏をパートナーに、ナカガワ氏が移動した場所で効率的かつ迅速に仕事場とディスプレイをセットアップできるようにする方法の開発に取り組みました。彼らは解決策として、日本のお弁当箱をベースに、セットアップの時間を大幅に短縮できるボックスセットをデザインしました。
和田夏未、新井晴子、三谷季生、北方誉之によるチームは、環境保護の観点から徒歩で移動し活動している自転車修理業者であるハヤシノブユキ氏をパートナーに、タイヤがパンクした自転車を簡単に移動させることができる「Slit Skate」をデザインしました。

The XX11 Triennale di Milano runs from March 1 to September 1, 2019 with its main curator being Paola Antonelli of the Museum of Modern Art, New York. The Triennale overall theme is Broken Nature: Design Takes on Human Survival, highlighting the concept of restorative design and how it can address our fractured relationship with our environment.
Included in the thematic exhibition will be a section dedicated to the Fixperts project. Two projects by KIT 3rd Year design teams who have participated in this annual feature of the KIT design curriculum have been selected. They will be on display with their accompanying videos.
Third year design students from KIT and KYOTO Design Lab have worked annually on a Fixperts project since 2015 as part of their design curriculum. Following a thematic brief, they are asked to find design partners in Kyoto and through discussion, ethnographic research and iterative prototyping, are asked to design products that will improve their working situation.
Gaishi Kudo, Urara Nakayama and Madoka Yagi worked with their 70 year-old Fixpartner, Michio Nakagawa, an itinerant shoe repairer, to design a simpler way for him to pack, unpack and set up his stall irrespective of location. Their Bebento prototype was based on a system similar to the stacked lunch boxes used at the New Year in Japan.
The second team of Natsumi Wada, Haruko Arai, Toshiki Mitani and Takayuki Kitakata worked with Nobuyuki Hayashi, an environmentally conscious bicycle repairer who would walk to where the bike needing repair was located rather than go by car. Their clever Slit Skate prototype allowed him to transport a bike with a punctured tyre simply back to his shop.
