マールース・テン・ボーマーの2018年度D-labデザイナー・イン・レジデンスでの焦点のひとつは、「歩く女性」の社会的、文化的な形成におけるデザインとメディアの役割を考察することでした。彼女は、単なる生体力学としての技法を超えた歩行を考察するために、モーション解析技術を利用して映画の文脈における女性の歩き方を調査しました。彼女は今回のプロジェクトについて次のように説明します。「映画のなかでの歩行は、アイデンティティの構築のような文化的、社会的、政治的な要素を体現しています。私のリサーチでは、女性の歩き方に焦点を当てることは、映画の主人公の生活の変化を示す比喩的なツールとして使われていることを明らかにしました」。
彼女がD-labデザイナー・イン・レジデンスとして制作したふたつの映像作品のうちのひとつ「The Path She Walks」が、コペンハーゲン・ファッション・フィルム・フェスティバル［CFF］でベストアイデア賞を受賞しました。

彼女は今回の受賞について、次のように喜びを述べています。

The Path She Walks
One focus of the Dutch designer Marloes ten Bhömer’s 2018 residency at D-lab was to consider the role played by design and media in the social and cultural formation of the Japanese ‘woman in motion.’ Employing motion analysis technology, she examined the nature of female gait in the context of cinema, to consider walking beyond a mere biomechanical technique. “Walking in cinema” she said “embodies cultural and socio-political elements such as the construction of identity. My research revealed that the focus on a woman’s gait is even used as a metaphorical tool to denote a change in the protagonists’ life.”
The Path She Walks, one of the two films she produced at D-lab, won the Best Idea Award at this month’s the Copenhagen Film Festival (CFF).

Marloes described this new genre and her delight at winning the award: “The fashion film genre is not completely defined, which means that it leaves room for diversifying roles, themes, voices, aesthetics and narratives. The Copenhagen Fashion Film Festival explores and focuses on the close connections between fashion, film and artistic practices and puts emphasis on challenging fashion communication through the fashion film. As such CFF expands on the notion what a fashion film is and I am therefore extremely honored to have received the ‘Best Idea’ award for my latest short film and grateful to the team at KYOTO Design Lab for its support and enthusiasm for the project.“
