During his six-month residency at KYOTO Design Lab in 2017, Henrik Nieratschker worked with Professor Toshiharu Akino of KITs Department of Applied Entomology and Porfessor Hiraku Nishimori of Hiroshima University’s Department of Mathematical and Life Sciences to explore how we can learn from the communal behaviour of social insects such as ants to develop an off-grid but connected ride-sharing system for depopulating and ageing communities.

The project was a finalist at the 2019 YouFab Global Creative Awards and will be shown from February 28 – March 8 at Shibuya QWS as part of the YouFab 2019 Winning Works Exhibition.
