The book TWO LAKES ふたつのみずうみ, the outcome of a five-year joint research project titled The Culture of Water (2018–2023), conducted by the Lucerne School of Engineering and Architecture and the Kyoto Institute of Technology, has been published by the Swiss publisher QUART.
This publication presents the outcomes of a comparative study of two cultural regions: Lake Lucerne in Switzerland and Lake Biwa in Japan. Focusing on four key water-related themes—danger, beauty, commons, and eternity—it explores the interdependent relationship between people and the architecture they create, and develops hypotheses specific to each region. The book also features in-depth essays, two photographic essays, and archival materials.
