スイスの出版社Lars Müller Publishersを主宰し、編集者・デザイナーとして数多くの書籍を手がけてきたラース・ミュラー氏を講師に迎え、京都をテーマにした編集ワークショップを開催します。
京都の伝統工芸や文化を対象に、「伝統と現在のつながり」「継承のかたち」を手がかりとしてフィールドワークを行います。参加者は写真・インタビュー・ドローイングなどで素材を集め、それを編集し、伝えるためのメディアへと落とし込みます。コンセプトから完成物まで、編集のプロセスを一通り体験することがこのワークショップの目的です。
判断を急がず、五感で場に身を置くことから始めます。
Collecting
数字や工程などの「ハードな事実」と、物語や空気感、色・音・匂いといった「ソフトな事実」の両方を集めます。
Editing
「編集者は読者の代弁者である」。誰に向けて伝えるのかを定め、集めた素材を構成します。
Design
内容と読者にふさわしい媒体（本・ZINE・ウェブ・動画など）を選び、形にします。
※ワークショップはグループワーク（1グループ4名）で行います。
対象者
デザイン・建築専攻の修士学生以上
※学部生の応募も受け付けますが、単位認定の対象外です。
単位
修士学生は「国際設計III」もしくは「地域設計III」として単位認定の対象となります。

KYOTO Design Lab is pleased to host an editorial workshop on Kyoto, led by Lars Müller, founder of the Swiss publishing house Lars Müller Publishers, who has created numerous books as an editor and designer.
The workshop is intended to explore, document, and convey the defining characteristics of Kyoto’s traditional crafts and culture, guided by the themes of “the connection between tradition and the present” and “forms of succession.” Through fieldwork, students will gain fundamental experience in research and translate the results (interviews, photographs, drawings, etc.) into a medium. The learning objective is to obtain knowledge of the editorial process, from concept to finished product.
Allowing oneself to perceive with all the senses without making a judgment, “settling into” a situation, is the prerequisite for a subsequent analytical examination of what has been observed.
Collecting
Hard facts (numbers, processes, context) and soft facts (stories, anecdotes, atmosphere, colors, smells, sounds) should be presented or described.
Editing
The editor is the reader’s advocate. Sorting and structuring the collected material is done solely with the goal of effective communication in mind. Who am I addressing?
Design
Which medium (book, zine, website, video, etc.) is most appropriate for my content and my target audience?
*The workshop will be conducted as group work (4 students per group).
Eligibility
KIT master’s and doctoral students
*Undergraduate students may also apply, but they will not receive credit.
Credits
Master’s students may receive credit as “International Design III”.
