International Round Table:
The Artist as Critical Curator

Recently, the number of art projects curated by artists has been increasing. Besides, it is no longer uncommon for artist to become museum directors. What is then required of the artist as a curator? What does the artist as a curator expect of museums or art festivals? Four artists, who have each developed unique curatorial activities, will discuss together with a philosopher about the potential as well as actual “power” of artists as critical curators, based on their practical experience and methodologies.

Night Session: Image × Architecture:
The Artist as Creative Interpreter

Building No.3 at Kyoto Institute of Technology is a historic building completed in 1930 . A few reel units of old 16mm film, which filmed the construction site of this building, remain in the archive of KIT. Referring to the imagery in these films as “image source”, an artist from Berlin has newly produced a series of video works and projects on the interior as well as exterior wall surface at the entrance hall of Building No. 3. This one night only site-specific installation project intends to present a new method of interpreting architecture, site and history in a creative way, using visual imagery. In parallel with the installation, a talk session, in which the artist discusses the meaning of this project with the audience will be held.
