KYOTO Design Lab [D-lab]は、2019年度のデザインリサーチャー・イン・レジデンスの実施に伴い、バルナ・ゲルゲイ・ペーターと水野大二郎特任教授らによるミニシンポジウム『クラフトしたデータ、処理した建築（Crafted Data, Processed Architecture）』を開催いたします。
京都大学総合博物館より齋藤 歩氏、プログラマー／建築理論家として知られる中村健太郎氏をゲストに招き、コンピューテーショナルデザインやデジタルファブリケーションに代表されるデジタルテクノロジーが、伝統的な大工技術にもたらす可能性と課題を広く議論します。新たな建築理論、設計手法の可能性に興味ある方はぜひご参加ください。

建築分野におけるデジタルファブリケーションの発展
インダストリー4.0からFablabムーブメントに至るまで、コンピューターを用いた設計手法や製造プロセスは、さまざまな大学や企業で研究され、急速に発展している。建築分野において、3DプリントやNC工作機、ロボティクスなどが「新しく、持続可能で、効率的な設計」のために注目を集めている。
デジタルテクノロジーがもたらす新たな課題
急速な技術革新がもたらされる一方、新たな課題が立ちはだかる。私たちは伝統といかに向き合い、建築遺産をどのように扱うべきか。未来の建築家や職人はどのような役割が与えられるか。そして、より自動化が進んだ未来において、自らものをつくり続ける人をいかに支援することができるか、ということだ。

本ミニシンポジウムでは、ゲストに京都大学総合博物館より齋藤歩氏、プログラマー／建築理論家として知られる中村健太郎氏を招き、KYOTO Design Lab 2019年度デザイン・リサーチャー・イン・レジデンスでプロジェクトに取り組むグレゲリー・ペーター・バルナと、水野大二郎特任教授とともに伝統的な大工技術とデジタル加工を巡るその現状と展開を議論する。

Crafted Data, Processed Architecture
The present state and common future of traditional carpentry and digital manufacturing
From industry 4.0 through the FABLAB movement, Computer aided design and manufacturing is a rapidly evolving field of technology researched at various universities and corporations. The aim of these development activities is mostly to create new, sustainable, efficient designs. Naturally this applies to architecture as well, where hitech methods, such as 3D printing, CNC manufacturing and robotic assembly bring new achievements on a daily basis.
At the same time the questions remain: How do we deal with our traditions, and the existing architectural heritage? What is the role for the former creators of architecture, the craftsmen in the future? How can we preserve the place of the creating human in a more and more automatized environment?
In this mini-symposium, Dr. Eng. Gergely Peter Barna, Design Researcher in Residence 2019 and Professor Mizuno Daijiro will introduce the present trends of digital design and fabrication in the field of architecture, as well outline the state of traditional architecture and its preservation in Japan. Joined by the special guests, Assistant Prof. Ayumu Saito and Kentaro Nakamura in a free discussion, they will envision possible directions for the future collaborations of computation and crafts, and speculate the possible introduction of new interactions, workflows and artefact.
