京都工芸繊維大学 KYOTO Design Lab［D-lab］は、2021年11月26日[金]－ 2022年1月30日[日]の日程で、展覧会「御旅所再考 京都今宮祭を継承する都市空間」を開催いたします。
御旅所再考――京都今宮祭を継承する都市空間
「御旅所」とは、祭の期間に神様を町に迎える場所のこと。京都・西陣を氏子地域とする今宮神社で毎年5月に行われる今宮祭では、神幸祭の日に神社から神様が遷られてから、還幸祭の日に戻られるまでの2週間、御旅所が神様の居処となるのです。
御旅所は、神社と地域をつなぐ祭に不可欠な場所として、都市のなかに今も変わらず存在しています。しかし、この祭と地域をめぐる状況は昔と同じではありません。織物産業の盛衰とともに今宮祭を支える西陣地域の生活は変わり、現在は祭への参加が困難になった町もあります。御旅所周辺の環境も、都市化の進行によって大きく変化してきました。かつてとは異なる日常のなか、移りゆく時間を超えて今宮祭を未来へと継承していくためにできることは何でしょうか。

2017年から西陣地域や今宮神社についてのリサーチを重ねてきた京都工芸繊維大学KYOTO Design Labでは、そのはじまりとして、神社と地域、祭と日常の境界／結節点である御旅所の、現代にあるべき姿を考えてきました。本展覧会では、これまでのリサーチと、それを踏まえた提案をご紹介します。

Re-considering Otabisho—An Urban Space Supporting the Future of Imamiya Festival, Kyoto
Otabisho is a place that serves as a temporary resting point when visiting Kami. Imamiya Festival is held every May at Imamiya Shrine, which has its shrine parishioners in the Nishijin area of Kyoto, for two weeks between Shinko-sai and Kanko-sai the Otabisho will serve as Kami’s temporary place
Otabisho has remained as an integral place for the festival that connects the shrine and the local area. However, the current situation involving the festival and its surrounding regional community is not the same as it used to be. Due to the decline of the textile industry, the Nishijin area that is supporting the Imamiya Festival has changed, making it hard for some neighborhoods to participate in the festival. Additionally, the environment around Otabisho has changed significantly due to urbanization. This brings up the question— What can we do to pass on the Imamiya Festival to the future generations while adapting to the evolution in everyday life?
Since 2017 KYOTO Design Lab has conducted several investigations while exploring boundaries between themes such as Shinto shrines and local community, and festival life and mundane life. Till this day Otabisho is known as a connecting point between these two worlds on but the question is what is the meaning of Otabisho in the present day. This exhibition introduces the project and its background research that was conducted when exploring Imamiya Festival and its local community.
