本学の石田潤一郎名誉教授の建築史家としての保存再生への考察や、清水重敦教授と中川理教授を交えた座談会の記録なども収録されています。

京都工芸繊維大学大学院の特別教育コースとして2015年にスタートした『建築都市保存再生学コース』の実践をもとに、コースの教育にご尽力いただいた学内外の専門家の方々と共に、保存再生における基本知識と課題を纏めたものです。
現代における近代建築の保存再生を考えるためのポイントを、それぞれ専門の立場から解りやすく解説をしています。大学・大学院における保存再生学の教科書としてももちろん、多くの建築関係者の方々にお読みいただきたい本です。
