谷川俊太郎のラジオ—音と映像のコミュニケーションデザイン
英国王立芸術学院（RCA）＋スズキユウリ 共同ワークショップ

谷川俊太郎［1931-］は、現在も活躍する日本の詩人であり、国内外で広く読まれ、高く評価されています。詩人の知られていない一面として、ラジオ・無線工学への情熱があります。。2010年、彼は自身が所有する、主にアメリカ製のヴィンテージラジオの幅広いコレクションを、関連するポスターや出版物とともに京都工芸繊維大学に寄贈しました。2011年に一度展示されて以来、これらは本学図書館や美術工芸資料館に保存されたままで、一度もこれらに関する解釈的作品がつくられたことはありませんでした。
このデザイン・ワークショップでは、日本と英国王立芸術学院［RCA］のデザイン学部の学生が、メディア領域における単独のコミュニケーション作品シリーズとして、このコレクションを用います。このコレクションに命を吹き込み、異なる文化の視点を有すデザイナーたちの視座から類まれなこの詩人の仕事を浮き彫りにすることが目的です。
また、スズキユウリはワークショップ後もKYOTO Design Labに滞在し、谷川へのインタビューに基づく、独自の作品を制作しています。その成果は2017年4月から5月にかけてKYOTO Design Lab東京ギャラリーで展示されました。

Shuntaro Tanikawa’s Radio Waves: Sound and Visual Communication Design

Shuntaro Tanikawa (b. 1931) is one of the most widelyread and highly regarded of living Japanese poets in Japan and overseas. What is less known about him is his passion for radios and radio engineering. In 2010, he donated his extensive vintage collection of radios to the KIT along with associated posters and publications. Apart from an exhibition in 2011, these remain in the library and archive of KIT. They have never had an interpretative workbased on them individually or as a collection.
This sound and visual design workshop used the collection as the springboard for a series of stand-alone interpretative works – ones that combined sound and visual communication design. The workshop participants consisted of five RCA design students and KIT’s Japanese and international design students. The aim was to bring the collection to life and underscore its significance to Tanikawa’s work and life through the eyes of designers from different cultures and perspectives.
Yuri Suzuki also created an interpretative work based on his conversation with Shuntaro Tanikawa. The resulting works were exhibited at Kyoto Design Lab Tokyo Gallery in April – May 2017.
