社会的な昆虫と現実──集団的知性における実験

私たちは、昆虫の社会的な振る舞いから何を学び、どのようにコミュニティベースの新しいライドシェア開発に活かすことができるのだろう？
データの安全性を保証し、信頼を基盤としたシステムの確約は、どのように可能だろう？
本プロジェクトでは、日本が直面しつつある社会問題のオルタナティブなシナリオを展開するにあたり、昆虫のコミュニティ形成やナビゲーションパターンの活用方法を検討した。
アリなど社会的な昆虫の振る舞いを用いた既存のコンピューターサイエンスを、カーナビゲーションや交通規制のための新しいアルゴリズムの設計に応用した。日本の近未来における、ドライバーレスで、ネットワーク化した乗り物の導入に着目したプロジェクトである。
京都工芸繊維大学応用生物学課程の秋野順治教授と広島大学数理分子生命理学専攻の西森拓教授とのコラボレーションにより、スペキュラティブなデザイン案を発展させた。彼らの研究からインスピレーションを受け、モビリティと高齢化に関する問題に対し、ダイナミックに応答する交通モデルを開発した。本プロジェクトは、ふたつの側面──包括的なライドシェアシステムの構築という大きな視点、および潜在的な個々の利用者という視点──から検討し、信頼をベースにしたシステムを許容する非集中的なコミュニケーションパターンの構築に焦点を当てた。根本的に従来とは異なる交通モデルに対する理解と適応を促すために必要となるであろう、既存コミュニティの仕組みにも着目している。

Henrik Nieratschker [MA, RCA, Design Interactions]
ヘンリック・ニーラチュカーの作品は、デザインとアート、テクノロジーとサイエンス、そしてフィクションとセオリーの関係性を切り拓く。デザインされたオブジェクトと技術的な応用によるナラティブの可能性に強い関心を寄せている。彼の作品はグラフィック、プロダクト、映像、彫刻、インタラクティブ・メディア、執筆など多岐にわたる。ブレーメン芸術大学でデジタル・メディア、同大学院でファインアートを専攻。その後、英国王立芸術学院でデザイン・インタラクションの修士を取得。現在は個人のプロジェクトに加え、実験的なデザインスタジオ「proto/meta」とキュレトリアル・アート・コレクティブ「Research and Waves」の共同設立者としても活動している。

Social Insects / Social Realities: decentralised ride-sharing for a driverless future

How can we learn from the collective behaviour of social insects and use those insights to develop new community-based systems of ride-sharing?
How can data security be assured and a trust-based system guaranteed?
The project explores how the community building and navigational patterns of social insects can be used to develop alternative future scenarios for urgent social issues in Japan. It builds on existing research in the computer sciences that takes the behaviour of such social insects as ants as a blueprint to develop new algorithms for car navigation and traffic control. The project’s focus is the near-future introduction of connected and driverless vehicles in Japan. Special consideration has been paid to issues of senior mobility in rapidly ageing and depopulating rural and sub-urban areas.
In collaboration with Prof. Toshiharu Akino of KIT’s Department of Applied Entomology and Prof. Hiraku Nishimori of Hiroshima University’s Department of Mathematical and Life Sciences, a speculative design proposal has been developed. This takes their research as an inspiration to develop models of transport that dynamically respond to the shifting perspectives on mobility and the needs of an ageing population. The project investigated the situation from two perspectives – the larger challenge of developing a comprehensive ride-sharing system and the individual perspective of potential users. The focus has been on developing decentralized communication patterns that allow trust-based technological systems. Inspired by existing community mechanisms, these could facilitate the adaptation and uptake of such a radically different model for transportation.

Henrik Nieratschker [MA, RCA] Design Interactions
Henrik Nieratschker’s work carves out a space between design and art, technology and science, fiction and theory and is particularly interested in the narrative capacities of designed objects and technological applications. His works ranges from graphics, products and video, to sculpture, interactive media and writing. Henrik Nieratschker holds a BA in Digital Media and a Master’s Certificate in Fine Arts from the University of Arts Bremen and a MA in Design Interactions from the Royal College of Art in London. In addition to his solo projects, he is cofounder of experimental design studio proto/meta and curatorial art collective Research and Waves.
